Islamabad (IP) - Iran's Foreign Minister met with the Pakistani Prime Minister in Islamabad on Thursday, discussing issues of bilateral interest.

Iran PressAsia: During the meeting, which was attended by the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, the top Iranian diplomat Hossein Amir-Abdollahian presented a report on the discussions held and agreements clinched following the political, economic, commercial, security, and border-related negotiations between the official delegations of the two countries.

The talks also revolved around banking issues, the barter system, and the Iran–Pakistan gas pipeline, also known as the Peace Pipeline or IP Gas.

Iran's top diplomat urged Pakistan to complete its part of a much-delayed gas pipeline between the two countries, a multi-billion project that has been on hold since 2014. Washington has opposed the pipeline, claiming it could allegedly violate sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear program.

Amir-Abdollahian also emphasized the decisive will of the Islamic Republic of Iran in implementing the agreements hammered out during the trip and previously-reached deals between Tehran and Islamabad.

The foreign minister further discussed the solutions that can be developed in the framework of international law for the expansion of economic and commercial cooperation between Iran and Pakistan.

For his part, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif, while welcoming the timely visit of the Iranian delegation to Pakistan and extending his invitation to the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasized that Ebrahim Raisi is the guest of the Pakistani nation.

Shahbaz Sharif expressed hope that after the developments related to Pakistan's elections, the Iranian President will be the first head of state to visit Pakistan.

The two sides also exchanged views about various regional and international issues, including the developments in Afghanistan.
