Iran Press/Asia: The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kabul issued a statement expressing hope that the initiative to establish a ceasefire on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr would be an effective step towards building greater trust and pursuing a peaceful solution to the conflict.
The Embassy expressed wish that the ceasefire would be a beginning for the Intra-Afghan dialogue to establish sustainable peace in Afghanistan.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement on Saturday evening that the Taliban would declare a three-day ceasefire on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani also welcomed the Taliban's announcement of a ceasefire in a Twitter message.
"I welcome the ceasefire announcement by the Taliban," Ghani wrote on Twitter. "As commander-in-chief, I have instructed the Afghan National Defence Security Force to comply with the three-day truce and to defend only if attacked," he said.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid on Saturday ordered group's militant that "Do not carry out any offensive operations against the enemy anywhere if any action is taken against you by the enemy, defend yourself," adding that the ceasefire was declared solely for Eid festivities.205
