Iran Press/Iran News: Khalil Aghaei, in an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Wednesday on the sideline of the 10th national meeting of the Environmental and Natural Resources NGOs Network in Ardebil, northwest of Iran, said: "Iran's Hyrcanian forests are several million years old and they are considered as remnants of European forests."
"The reason for registration of these outstanding ecoregion as the World Heritage Sites in Iran is its impact on the whole world," Aghaei who is also the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jihad added about the importance of Iran's Caspian Hyrcanian mixed forests.
The Caspian Hyrcanian Mixed Forests ecoregion, in the temperate broadleaf and mixed forests biome, is an area of lush lowland and montane forests covering about 55,000 square kilometers and is located near the southern shores of the Caspian Sea of Iran and Azerbaijan. The forest is named after the ancient region of Hyrcania.
On 5 July 2019, the Hyrcanian Forests were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 207/217
