Iran Press/Asia: Islamic Republic of Iran's embassy in Kabul said in a statement on Saturday that Iran supports peace talks based on Afghan sovereignty and leadership.
Reiterating Iran's support for peace and stability in Afghanistan, the statement advised the US officials to carefully study before commenting on Iranian officials' views on regional and Afghan issues.
The statement reiterated the Islamic Republic of Iran's firm stance on the need to establish peace based on the results of Afghan-owned, Afghan-led talks.
This statement was issued following Zalmai Khalilzad's false statements about the views and actions of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Afghan peace process.
This is while the US Envoy for Afghanistan Peace, Zalmay Khalilzad has said that the Islamic Republic of Iran had not done as it was expected to help the peace process of Afghanistan.
"Iran was expected to cooperate more with the Afghan peace process and the intra-Afghan talks, but it didn’t," Khalilzad said Friday in a discussion hosted by the US institute for peace.
Iran opposes the US presence in Afghanistan but says to cooperate with any efforts for real peace in Afghanistan.
