Iran Press/Iran News: Stressing that besides supplying a large part of the world's energy, the Persian Gulf had always been of interest to the world throughout history as one of the top geopolitical regions in the world, Shahriar Heidari told Iran Press in an exclusive interview.
Emphasizing the importance of the Hormuz Strait in the Persian Gulf Heidari noted that the strait was a passageway for sea vessels and energy transfer in the region, and one of the seven famous straits in the world.
He told Iran Press: "According to the laws and regulations governing the seas, according to the 1982 Convention, the share of the Islamic Republic is clear. Iran has an important role to play in controlling the Strait of Hormuz, and this is an international definition within the framework of the relevant convention.”
Also, referring to the enemies’ strategy to create tension in the safe zone of the Persian Gulf, Heidari added that the Persian Gulf was of interest to countries due to its oil, gas energy abundance so the world powers enter into agreements with the countries bordering the Persian Gulf and are present in the Persian Gulf under the pretext of ensuring their security.
He explained that due to its historical background, the Islamic Republic of Iran had always played a key and pivotal role in the Persian Gulf, and did not allow foreigners to disrupt the security of the region.
“Iran's role is very strategic and the authority of the Islamic Republic's naval power in the region along with its pivotal role in providing security will increase every day”, Heidari said.
