Muscat (IP) - The Senior Advisor to Iran's Foreign Minister for Political Affairs and Oman's Foreign Minister stressed the sending of humanitarian aid to Syria following the earthquake that happened in the country.

Iran PressMiddle East: An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale shook the south of Türkiye and the north of Syria on February 6, Monday morning, which left at least 21,000 people dead both in Türkiye and Syria.

Ali-Asghar Khaji and Badr bin Hamad al-Busaeedi held a meeting in Muscat on Thursday and emphasized the need to send humanitarian aid to Syria.

Due to US anti-Syria sanctions, many countries, including the European ones as well as the World Health Organization (WHO) have hesitated to provide Syria with humanitarian aid under such difficult circumstances. The US claims that the sanctions are against the Syrian government, yet the Syrian nation seems to be targeted in reality. However, Türkiye has received international aid from different countries.

The US Treasury eased the sanctions on Syria on Thursday, authorizing for 180 days all transactions related to earthquake relief after China's call to lift sanctions to let humanitarian aid in Syria. However, the Deputy Secretary of the US Treasury Wally Adeyemo said "the US sanctions programs already contain robust exemptions for humanitarian efforts."

Khaji appreciated the Omani government's efforts to politically solve the Yemeni crisis and lift the blockade of the Yemeni people, and discussed the latest developments in the region.

The Senior Advisor to Iran's Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali-Asghar Khaji has traveled to Muscat with the purpose of examining the latest political developments of the Yemen crisis.

Saudi Arabia, in the form of a coalition of several Arab countries, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and with the help and green light of the United States and the support of the Zionist regime, started large-scale attacks against Yemen on March 25, 2015.

The United Nations said it needed $4.3 billion to fund its humanitarian activities in war-torn Yemen this year.
