Iran Press/Iran news: "We have received a request for amnesty from the Lebanese president and Nizar Zaka himself, and we have applied the law and release conditionally," Iranian judiciary spokesman Keyvan Khosravi announced Tuesday, according to Iran Press.
"The judge has the right to order the release of a prisoner according to the circumstances. We discussed the matter. He was behaving well while he was in prison, and because the Lebanese president Michel Aoun and Hezbollah Secretary-General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah considered his release to be in their interest." Khosravi said adding: "Zaka promised that he would not return to his crime after he is released."
He stressed that no third country played a role in the release of Zaka and Iran freed him in the framework of bilateral cooperation with Lebanon, expressing goodwill and strengthening the relations between the two countries.
"With regards to the important and effective role of Lebanon's President Michel Aoun in supporting the resistance movement, the Islamic Republic of Iran replied positively to his request," Khosravi said.
Nazar Zaka, the US-based Lebanese national, was arrested in Iran in 2015 on charges of spying to the army and US intelligence services and Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) arrested him. He was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and paying 4.5 million dollars fine. 203/211/308
