Iran Press/Europe: The Iranian President’s Special Envoy, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi met French President, Emmanuel Macron, in Paris on Tuesday discussing bilateral ties as well as regional and international issues of importance.
Araghchi and Macron also exchanged views and talked about ways of de-escalating tensions in the Middle East and how to preserve the landmark Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
According to an Iran Press report, the senior Iranian envoy and deputy foreign minister also had a meeting and discussion with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on Tuesday.
Araghchi told Le Drian that Iran will not allow any disruption to commercial shipping in the Persian Gulf.
“We expect Europe to show a clear stance against US policy of reducing Iran’s oil exports to zero,” added Araghchi.
The French Foreign Minister, for his part, said that France is after de-escalation of tensions, adding, “Paris emphasizes the preservation and the implementation of the JCPOA and will continue its efforts in this regard.”
The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister headed to Paris late on Monday as the Special Representative of President Hassan Rouhani.
He carried a written message from President Rouhani to his French counterpart President Emmanuel Macron.
Rouhani in a telephone call to Macron on Thursday, July 18, said "the door of diplomacy over the 2015 nuclear deal will be kept open." 101/211/214
