Iran Press/ Iran News: Abbas Mousavi called the launch of a new generation of intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of carrying several nuclear warheads (the M51 missile) by the French Navy as inconsistent with the stipulation and spirit of Article 6 of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and France's commitment to nuclear disarmament.
Mousavi stated: "The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran while expressing concern over this move, believes that the French government should not ignore its international obligations in accordance with Article 6 of the NPT and NPT Review Conference Statement and called on Paris to fully comply with its international obligations in the field of nuclear disarmament."
The spokesman termed nuclear weapons as a threat to international peace and security, and that modernizing and testing such weapons would weaken the NPT as the cornerstone of the international regime's disarmament and non-proliferation. 207
