Tehran (IP) - Iran's trade relations with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) have witnessed remarkable growth, with trade volume increasing by over 2.5 times since the implementation of a preferential trade agreement in 2018.

Iran PressIran news: Mohammad-Ali Dehghan Dehnavi, the head of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO), highlighted this achievement during a meeting with members of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture.

Dehnavi noted that Iran’s exports to the EAEU have surged by more than 138% in the same period, signaling a strong economic partnership between the two sides. The preferential trade agreement, covering about 862 commodity items, came into effect on October 27, 2019, and has since paved the way for increased bilateral trade.

Looking ahead, Iran is pushing for the establishment of a free zone in Armenia, an EAEU member. Dehnavi described this proposal as an excellent opportunity for Iranian businesses to expand their export operations in the region.

In a further boost to their economic ties, Iran and the EAEU signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in December last year during the EAEU Summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. This agreement is expected to deepen cooperation and increase trade exchanges between Iran and the union in the coming years.
