The 8th Joint Consular Commission of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the People's Republic of China was held in China with the director generals for consular affairs of the two countries' foreign ministries in attendance.

Iran Press/Asia: In the meeting, the two sides discussed key consular issues, including facilitating visa issuance for businesspeople, economic activists, students, and tourists and giving Iranians good banking access in China. The two sides also stressed the need to speed up the implementation of convict swap deals and judicial assistance, to address the issues of prisoners in both countries and to exchange them and other matters related to the nationals of Iran and China.

Other issues that were discussed in the meeting were the recognition of the driving licenses of Iran and China in the two countries, engaging in police coordination and cooperation, and increasing scientific exchanges and interactions between Iranian and Chinese universities.

They agreed that the respective committees of the two countries steadily pursue the issues until their efforts produce results.

The commission was held after a 6-year hiatus thanks to efforts by the Iranian Foreign Ministry and the Iranian embassy in Beijing as well as cooperation on the part of the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the country's embassy in Tehran.
