Heavy rainfall led to flooding in several cities and villages in western and central Iran as a low-pressure system which entered the country from the west on Monday, is drenching communities along its eastward path.

Iran Press/Iran news: In Lorestan Province, which was hit hard by the recent devastating floods, special measures, including evacuations of local people and construction of embankments, were undertaken to mitigate the impact of the heavy downpours.

Heavy rainfall caused flooding in some cities and villages in western Lorestan province, on Tuesday.

Roads to some 58 villages were blocked near the city of Kuhdasht in Lorestan Province due to heavy rains and flooding. Necessary steps are being taken to reopen the roads in the region and drain the floodwaters.

Authorities warned yesterday about the likelihood of heavy rainfall and flooding in Lorestan and people in certain areas have been warned to evacuate their homes and seek temporary accommodation or shelter in nearby cities.

The Khorramroud river, which flows through the provincial capital, Khorramabad, has swelled since Tuesday morning and officials predicted that it would burst its banks by midnight. People there were seen setting up flood-barriers to protect their homes and properties from the roaring floodwaters.
