Iran Press/America: Sanders came out swinging against Washington’s effort to pin blame on Iran for purported attacks on tanker ships in the Gulf of Oman, putting the hawks on blast in a tweet on Friday.
“The Gulf of Oman incident must not be used as a pretext for war with Iran,” Sanders said, adding that an attack on Iran would not only be illegal, but “an unmitigated disaster for the United States, Iran, the region, and the world,” RT reported.
While it remains unclear what happened to the ships, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday claimed that Iran had carried out the attacks on the two tanker vessels, but cited no evidence at the time. The UK followed suit the next day.
The US military on Friday released a blurry video clip that American officials claim proves that commandos of the Iranian Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) had planted explosives on one of the ships, but the low-quality video footage is far from convincing and many experts argue that it doesn't prove much.

US propaganda in blaming Iran for Oman oil tanker attack futile
Iran, for its part, denies any involvement in the so-called attacks, with Foreign Minister Javad Zarif noting the odd timing of the incident and accusing the US of moving to “Plan B: Sabotage diplomacy” in an attempt to “cover up its economic terrorism” against the Iranians.
The US’ acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said on Friday that the Pentagon is planning for the possible deployment of additional US forces to the Persian Gulf region for countering what the Pentagon calls a 'worsening threat from Iran'.
Iran says it has not threatened US forces in any way, and has not been involved in the Gulf of Oman attacks on oil tankers, which Iran describes as highly suspicious and a false flag operation. Indeed, as many analysts and experts have already pointed out, it is very hard to see what Iran will gain by attacking commercial shipping in the Gulf of Oman or the Persian Gulf.
Senior Iranian officials have forthrightly and categorically dismissed any suggestion of Iranian involvement in either the Thursday 13 June attacks or the earlier 12 May attacks on commercial shipping in the Gulf of Oman. The German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, who recently visited Tehran, said the blurry US video was certainly “not enough” to prove Iranian guilt.
Maas rejected the US assertion that the low-quality video proved that Iran was behind the attack on the oil tankers. Maas stopped short of saying who actually was behind the attacks. 101/211/214
