Syria (IP) - The Speaker of Iran's Parliament says he visits Syria to negotiate and consult on economic, political, and cultural issues as the biggest opportunity for the two countries.

Iran PressMiddle East: Arriving in Damascus on Tuesday, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Syria's situation was an exceptional opportunity for Iranian trade as Syria was the closest region to enter the markets of Europe and the Mediterranean Sea.

"The visit takes place after the successful Syrian elections with the high participation of the Syrian people, and the beginning of the new 7-year term of President Bashar al-Assad," added Ghalibaf, congratulation Bashar al-Assad over his winning the Syrian presidential election.

The Iranian parliament speaker said that today, the military and security situation in Syria, as well as the threats posed by ISIS and other terrorist groups, were over, and the country was on the path of economic development.

Iran's Ghalibaf visited Syria on the official invitation of the country to negotiate with senior Syrian officials on bilateral, regional, and international economic cooperation.
