Iran Press/ Iran news: On Sunday night, Saeed Khatibzadeh, in response to reporters' questions about the latest situation of Iranian nationals detained on the border between Belarus and Lithuania, added: "Following the information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Belarus Follow up on the issue."
He added: "According to this, the embassy immediately contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant Belarusian institutions to obtain additional information about the situation of compatriots trapped on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border and to resolve their problems."
He further explained that during these contacts, the embassy requested the cooperation of the competent Belarusian institutions to reach out to Iranian nationals detained at the border and investigate their situation immediately.
Khatibzadeh emphasized: "Due to the importance and urgency of the issue, an attempt was made to establish direct contact with the affected people. Accordingly, in addition to the ambassador's phone call with one of the arrested citizens, a delegation from the embassy this morning went to the Belarus-Lithuania border region to pave the way for their repatriation, which, according to reports, is currently in the border region and, in cooperation with the regional border, is trying to resolve the problems of its compatriots as soon as possible."
The Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed: "The Iranian embassy is in constant contact with the relevant Belarusian institutions and has officially informed the Belarusian side of the serious concern of the Islamic Republic of Iran about the situation of Iranian nationals detained at the border."
In the end, Khatibzadeh said: "We are confident that the Belarusian government will have the necessary and sufficient cooperation within the framework of Tehran-Minsk friendly relations to solve the problems of these Iranian citizens."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran will seriously pursue this issue until the problems of these compatriots are resolved.
The developments came as Lithuania on Friday began putting up a fence along its border with Belarus after experiencing a recent massive influx of migrants coming from its neighbor.
