Iran Press/ Iran news: The shores of Shib Deraz village in Qeshm Island, Hormozgan province, southern Iran, has become a habitat for the Hawksbill sea turtle in the spring.
Each Hawksbill sea turtle spawns 60 to 70 eggs. In the current year, about 7,500 eggs were collected by the inhabitants of the village and the staff of the island's department of environment and then were transferred to the protected site in the area.
Each egg hatches after 70 days, reaching maturity between 25 to 35 years old, while the average lifespan of each turtle is 70 years.
There are seven turtle species known globally, two of which, Green sea turtle and Hawksbill sea turtle, inhabit the coastal waters of Qeshm Island.
The Green turtle is on the World Conservation Union's list of endangered species, but the Hawksbill sea turtle is the one that is highly endangered among the species.
