Tehran (IP) - Iran's Chief of Staff of the Presidential Office, Mahmoud Vaezi, has emphasized that the Persian Gulf would be peaceful if non-regional countries withdrew their naval forces from this region.

Iran Press/Iran news: Mahmoud Vaezi, the presidential chief of staff, speaking on the sidelines of today's cabinet session, told reporters that if Western countries want to go another way on Iran's nuclear issue, we will do the same and choose a different way.

Mahmoud Vaezi said in May 2019 President Hassan Rouhani wrote a letter to the leaders of the 4+1 Group, stating that we were interested in staying within the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and we are ready to fulfill all of our commitments provided the 4+1 countries stay in the agreement and fulfill their commitments too.

He added, "The argument was that if the Americans or any other country wants to refer the nuclear case to the UN Security Council, then we will make tougher decisions."

"In my opinion, this is President Rouhani's message to some countries in his above-mentioned letter, that if they want to be in JCPOA, we are committed to it too, but if they want to withdraw, we will reciprocate as well", the official stated.
