French authorities are taking emergency measures after spread of coronavirus is confirmed, in an attempt to both stop the spread of the virus and reassure the public.

Iran Press/Europe: French President Emmanuel Macron upended his schedule and canceled his planned visits, the Elysée Palace announced Monday while declaring an emergency situation to stop the spread of coronavirus.

There are now 130 confirmed cases in France, a health ministry official announced Sunday, two people have died.

French Health Minister Olivier Véran announced a ban on indoor gatherings to avoid the rapid spread of the virus. The Louvre is also closed to all French and foreign tourists.

France’s most famous museum is one of many places in the country affected by the government’s measures to try and curb the coronavirus’ spread. France banned all indoor public gatherings of more than 5,000 people.

At the same time, Paris’ celebrated Agricultural Show, one of the biggest commercial events in France, ended on Saturday evening 24 hours ahead of schedule, after attendance had already been substantially lower. It attracted some 630,000 visitors in 2019, but this year there were just 480,221 despite it lasting one day less.
