Iran Press/ Europe: A group of Quran desecrators in Sweden who announced they will burn Islam's holy book for the second time on Thursday, did not burn it after Iraqi protestors stormed Sweden's embassy in Baghdad and set it to fire in the early hours of Thursday.
According to a report by Reuters' witnesses, They claimed that they kicked and partially destroyed a book they said was the Quran.
The group who gathered outside Iraq embassy in Stockholm left the demonstration.
Protesters set ablaze Sweden’s embassy in the Iraqi capital Baghdad early Thursday, ahead of a planned burning of a Quran in Sweden for the second time.
Iraq Warning to Sweden
Iraq on Thursday recalled its chargé d'affaires in Sweden and asked Sweden's ambassador to leave Iraqi soil, according to the Iraqi government.
Later on the day, Baghdad warned that it would sever diplomatic ties with Sweden if a second Quran-burning act within several weeks goes ahead in Stockholm.
A statement from Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al Sudani's office on Thursday condemned Swedish "provocative" actions that pose "a threat to peace and encourage a culture of violence and hatred".
Sudani met with senior security and diplomatic officials after Iraqi protesters early on Thursday stormed and set fire to the Swedish embassy in Baghdad to protest the Quran burning expected later in the day.
Swedish media reported that Salwan Momika, an Iraqi refugee in Sweden, had organized the planned burning on Thursday.
Salwan also burned pages of a copy of the Quran in front of Stockholm’s largest mosque on June 28 during Eid al-Adha, a holiday celebrated by Muslims around the world.
