Director-General of Foreign Affairs and Immigrants of Iran's Ministry of Interior Mehdi Mahmoudi

Tehran (IP) - The Director-General of Foreign Affairs and Immigrants of Iran's Ministry of Interior stressed that the international community should support refugees.

Iran PressIran News:  In a virtual meeting, Mehdi Mahmoudi stressed the need for serious support for refugees, calling it1 an international responsibility and a humanitarian act with fair participation of all members of the international community.

Ivo Freijsen, UNHCR Representative in Iran, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health of Iran, ambassadors of various countries to Iran, as well as heads of the UN and international NGO representatives participated in this virtual meeting entitled "Partners of Strategic Solutions Aiming to Support Voluntary Returns, Sustainable Reintegration, and Assistance to Host Countries."

In this meeting, Mehdi Mahmoudi spoke about refugees' services for more than 40 years by the Islamic Republic of Iran in areas, including health, education, livelihood, vocational training, employment, and measures taken to combat COVID-19.

Mahmoudi added: "The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran expects more effective steps to be taken with the support of the international community in accepting the responsibility of protecting refugees, which is one of the goals of the International Refugee Convention."
