Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman said that restoring rights violated by decades of sanctions is a core demand and that Iran’s rights under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty must be recognised and respected in any deal, also Iran is ready to cooperate on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.

Why it matters:

Iran elevates the right to peaceful nuclear energy as a cornerstone of any future agreement, potentially shaping the scope and concessions in negotiations. Also, Tehran shows willingness to engage on safeguards while prioritizing its perceived rights, which could affect talks with Western powers and the IAEA.

The big picture:

The statement comes as major powers weigh a new framework for Iran’s nuclear program amid long-running sanctions. By tying political and economic relief to rights enshrined in international law, Iran is attempting to shift leverage in negotiations. The push underscores a broader strategy to align sanctions relief with recognition of rights, potentially affecting regional stability and future compliance assurances.

What he’s saying :

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei, in response to Iran Press, elaborates on a win-win agreement between Iran and the U.S:

“An agreement that restores the violated rights of the Iranians means restoring the rights that have been violated over the past two to three decades due to the oppressive sanctions against Iran and is therefore one of our main demands.”

“In the nuclear field, Iran’s rights must also be recognized and respected.”

“These rights have been recognized as part of the country’s set of obligations and rights since Iran was admitted as a party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in 1970.”

“Respect for Iran’s right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy must be an integral part of any understanding in this area.”

“It is natural that we have shown our readiness to cooperate in ensuring the continued peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program.”
