US President-elect Joe Biden has reacted to widespread cyber-attacks on US government institutions.

Iran Press/America: Joe Biden said in a statement said that as President he will do whatever is necessary to counter cyber-attacks against the US.

"Cyber security will be one of his government's top priorities," Biden said, noting that he would impose significant costs on the perpetrators of these attacks.

According to Reuters, some sources say that a group of hackers, backed by a foreign government, had gained access to the US Treasury Department and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration system and had stolen their data.

The Washington Post also reported that Russian hackers were accused of involvement in the breach, but no evidence was found.

Russia, meanwhile, has denied the allegations and called them baseless.

In a recent incident, the Energy Department and National Nuclear Security Administration, which maintains the US nuclear weapons stockpile said hackers accessed their network via a massive cyber attack. 219
