Hezbollah Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem delivered a series of speeches at a recent Al-Mahdi Scouts gathering, celebrating the youth movement’s role in shaping Lebanon’s future. The event marked the 40th anniversary of the organization, which operates under Hezbollah’s Education Unit and serves as a key ideological and social training ground for young members.

Why it matters:

Sheikh Qassem’s remarks reinforce Hezbollah’s strategy of cultivating loyalty and ideological alignment from a young age. The speeches also reflect the group’s emphasis on spiritual and cultural resistance alongside its military posture, especially amid ongoing regional tensions.

What he’s saying:

Speaking before more than 74,000 scouts, Sheikh Qassem praised their role as the next generation, telling them, “You are the bright future, and the Master of the Ummah’s Martyrs watched over you to nurture the spirit of commitment, determination, and hope.”

He noted that the scouts have grown up “at the heart of the struggle,” embodying the values of steadfastness and resistance instilled by their movement.

Concluding his address, Qassem expressed pride in being among them, saying, “It is an honor for me to be here with you.” Held under the slogan “We are committed to the pledge, O Nasrallah,” the event also commemorated the martyrdom anniversary of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyed Hashem Safiyeddine.

“The resistance is not just a military path, it is spiritual discipline, faith, dignity, and independence,” Qassem said. “I am proud to be among you. I love you, and I hope we will be together awaiting Imam Mahdi.” (P.B.U.H.)

The context:

Founded in 1985, the Al-Mahdi Scouts have grown to over 40,000 members across Lebanon. The movement blends religious education with community service and ideological training.
