Why it matters:
Israeli PM Netanyahu insists on war policies to protect his position while having no achievements out of the war on Gaza. The protests are spilling over to different classes of the Israeli community and may bring the regime to collapse.
What we're hearing:
The officers emphasized that the war in Gaza continues aimlessly and does not contribute to Israel’s security.
They also gathered outside the home of Tomer Bar, commander of the Israeli Air Force, holding placards reading “Death Government, killer of captives in Gaza,” along with images of Israeli captives , demanding an immediate end to the war.
What he's saying:
A former Air Force commander said the war in Gaza could have ended long ago and the captives could have been returned a year ago, but it still continues.
"Expanding the war will lead to more military casualties and hinder the release of the captives ."
Dan Halutz, another former commander of the Israeli Air Force: "The expansion of the war in Gaza will further damage Israel’s image globally."
He stated that if there were real reasons to continue the war, they would support it—but now, Netanyahu’s cabinet lacks legitimacy to pursue a war that most Israelis oppose.
Zoom in:
Some Israelis, in response to the protests, called on Air Force officers to refuse Netanyahu’s orders to intensify airstrikes.
- They said the word “refusal” has become sacred, and any soldier participating in the war in Gaza or raids in the West Bank is not a hero, but someone sacrificing themselves for Netanyahu’s personal interests—whom they described as a war criminal wanted by the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
