Why it matters:
It has been more than 19 months since Israel started attacking Gaza, while those claiming human rights are silent, in a rare move, a European country, the U.K., reacted to the catastrophe in Gaza. The humanitarian situation in Gaza is rapidly deteriorating.
The big picture:
Recently, the leaders of the U.K., France, and Canada called Israel's refusal to let basic aid reach Gaza unacceptable. They announced in a statement that Israel should stop attacks on Gaza and allow humanitarian aid to the Strip. For the past 11 weeks, Israeli occupying forces (IOF) have imposed a complete blockade on Gaza. According to the World Food Program, no reserves left in the region.
Key points:
- More than 9,000 trucks carrying basic items, including food, are waiting to enter Gaza.
- In a statement with 27 international partners, the U.K. called on Israel to end the blockade and accept the UN plan for the widespread delivery of aid.
- Despite the U.S., Qatar, and Egypt's efforts, no ceasefire has been reached in Gaza.
