SPOX: despite US sanctions, Iran-Syria cementing economic ties

Tehran (IP) - In response to the US sanctions on Syria, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said: "Tehran will continue its economic cooperation with the resilient nation and the Syrian government as in the past, and despite these sanctions, it will strengthen economic ties with Syria."

Iran Press/Iran news: In a statement issued on Thursday, Abbas Mousavi, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, called the imposition of the so-called "Caesar" sanctions law (Caesar Act) on Syria as the violation of international law and human rights.

Mousavi reminded: "In a situation where the world is involved in the Corona epidemic, the implementation of such inhumane sanctions will only aggravate the suffering of the Syrian people."

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed that Tehran does not give any credit to such oppressive and unilateral sanctions, adding that Iran considers such sanctions economic terrorism against the ordinary people of Syria and the continuation of US efforts to destabilize the war-torn country.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on Wednesday the start of sanctions against the Syrian government.

US sanctions against Syria under the Caesar Act include sanctions against 39 Syrian figures and officials, including Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his wife.

Under the so-called Caesar Act, the United States intends to put Damascus in a difficult position by imposing instigated sanctions on Syrian institutions and individuals to prevent Syria and its allies' cooperation rebuilding the country.
