Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, said Tuesday night that repeated Security Council meetings on chemical weapons and the humanitarian crisis were the only means of putting pressure on Syria.

Iran PressEurope: Vasily Nebenzya criticized the US silence over the repeated violations of armed groups in Idlib province in northwestern Syria and called on Washington to abide by international resolutions that support Syria's independence and the withdrawal of occupying forces.

He criticized the siege and the imposition of sanctions that have affected the lives of all Syrians, adding that the US Permanent Representative to the Security Council did not condemn the attacks by armed terrorist groups in Idlib.

Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations told the Americans that the ISIS terrorist group had recently launched offensives and that some of the group's forces had escaped from prisons in northeastern Syria, saying to Americans that Resolution 2254 emphasizes respect for national sovereignty and the independence of Syria.

Vasily Nebenzya added that the solution to the Syrian crisis begins with the end of the occupation of foreign countries in Syria, which will pave the way for the return of migrants, but that would be possible only after the travel restrictions have been lifted due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

He cited the efforts of terrorist groups as an example of politicizing the Syrian crisis, saying that repeated Security Council meetings on chemical weapons and the humanitarian crisis were the only means to put pressure on Syria.

Vasily Nebenzya sharply criticized the UN Secretary-General secretariat, stressing that the UN Secretariat ignores reports and information provided by Syria while relying on Western sources and terrorist groups in its investigation into the chemical attacks in Syria.
