Damascus (IP) - The meeting of the members of the parliamentary friendship groups of Iran and Syria was held in Damascus.

Iran PressMiddle East: The Wednesday evening meeting was attended by Abbas Golrou, the vice-chairman of the Syria-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group, and Vice-Chairman of the Syrian-Iranian Friendship Committee, Dr. Haifa Juma'a was held in Damascus in which both sides emphasized expanding parliamentary cooperation.

The Iranian parliamentary delegation, headed by Abbas Golrou, arrived in Damascus on Tuesday evening to stand by the Syrian people in confronting the consequences of the devastating earthquake that has hit some Syrian provinces recently. 

“This visit comes in order to provide relief assistance for the affected areas, and to strengthen and boost the joint parliamentary relations and activate cooperation agreements, especially in the economic domain,” Golrou said upon his arrival at Damascus International Airport.

For her part, the Vice-Chairman of the Syrian-Iranian Friendship Committee, Haifa Juma’a, affirmed that Iran has provided all kinds of support for the Syrian people and sent delegations and relief supplies for the earthquake-affected people, adding that both sides look forwards to developing and strengthening parliamentary relations.

Haifa Juma’a added: Dialogues and exchange of parliamentary experiences can play a critical role in expanding cooperation between the two countries.

Juma’a said that the relations and cooperation between the parliamentary friendship groups of Iran and Syria continue and these meetings are held with the aim of promoting parliamentary cooperation.

The members of the Iran-Syria Parliamentary Friendship Group also met and talked with Syria's Speaker of the People's Assembly, Hammouda Sabbagh.
