Tehran (IP) - Leader of the Islamic Revolution Seyyed Ali Khamenei meet and spoke with Uzbekistan's president, Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and his accompanying delegation this afternoon, June 18, 2023.

Iran PressIran News: Iran's Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has described the historical, cultural, and scientific ties between Iran and Uzbekistan as unique during a meeting with Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Uzbekistan's president discussed ways to expand relations in various sectors, with Ayatollah Khamenei highlighting the potential for cooperation beyond trade and transportation.

 

He also expressed his satisfaction at the renewal of relations between the two countries after a long break, stating that he hopes the talks held in Tehran will be the beginning of a better future for their relationship.

The Islamic Republic can easily connect Uzbekistan to the high seas through Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, added Ayatollah Khamenei.

The leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has called for the expansion of cooperation between Iran and Uzbekistan, despite opposition from some quarters.

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed the importance of increasing ties between the two countries based on their mutual interests.

The meeting was also attended by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.

Mirziyoyev described the encounter as historic and expressed regret over the previous reduction in cooperation between the two nations.

He expressed hope that dialogue would lead to increased trade, transportation, science, technology and tourism.

Mirziyoyev also praised Iran's resilience in the face of sanctions and its achievements in science and technology.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Sunday officially welcomed the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev who is the first Uzbek president to visit Iran in more than 20 years.

The visiting Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was accorded an official welcome by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi at the Sa’dabad Cultural-Historical complex in Tehran on Sunday.
