Iran Press/Iran news: On the sideline of a meeting with information technology and communication activists, the Minister of Information and Communications Technology Mohammad-Javad Azari Jahromi in a live video press conference accompanied by the First Vice President Eshaq Jahniri, elaborated on the latest measures taken by this ministry.
Azari-Jahromi said, "In recent years, Iran has witnessed and faced various big challenges like natural disasters and the imposed sanctions which affected the functions of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, let alone the COVID-19.
"Despite the economic challenges, the ministry has taken remarkable steps to contain the virus or decrease public gathering.", the official noted.
The high ranking official went on to say, "During the pandemic, the country's data usages has grown notably and internet consumption has reached 3.2, and over three million postal packages were transferred in comparison to the past which was 1 million and it indicates 48 percent growth and people have turned to post and packaging more than before. The operators' companies' income has also increased as well."
Azari- Jahromi stated, "Corona has pushed us forward to reach our intended goals sooner than expected. Also by taking and implementing the national capacities of various sections, we succeeded in meeting the country's needs."
"What is required now is to allocate enough finance to online tourism and shopping. Home-shopping Campaign has been implemented during the outbreak by employing 2,000 individuals by Mine, Industry and Trade Ministry, and the ministry of ICT. Iran needs to expand its international market business with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization's (UNIDO) cooperation.", the official noted.
Iran also must support home-made phones and smart equipment. The electronic government during the Coronavirus outbreak has allocated 17 million loans to those in need. One of the Islamic Republic of Iran's achievements has been controlling the coronavirus thorough national controlling and monitoring.
Elsewhere the minister stated that in order to respect and honor what the medical staff has done to combat and contain the virus, the ministry has produced a stamp for the first time in the world.
During post-Coronavirus, there is a need to invest in the communication sector and providing the necessary financial sources via the Stock exchange, the official highlighted. 212/ 104
