Iran Press/Asia: Wang Yi made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tengchong, southwest China's Yunnan Province.
China will continue to promote the comprehensive agreement on the Iran nuclear issue and UN Security Council Resolution 2231.
In 2015, the Security Council unanimously adopted resolution 2231 (2015) endorsing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), concluded by diplomatic efforts of China, France, Germany, Russia, the UK, and the U.S. to reach a comprehensive, long-term, and proper solution to Iran's nuclear program.
As part of efforts to continue to push forward the implementation of the JCPOA, the Chinese foreign minister said China proposes to establish a regional multilateral dialogue platform and include all parties concerned to facilitate dialogue on equal footing and increase understanding, thereby resolving the nuclear issue through political and diplomatic means.
China is open to the form and content of such a dialogue, and all parties are welcome to join the discussion, Wang added.
Zarif said that Iran fully affirms China's role in safeguarding the JCPOA and is willing to work together with China, Russia, and the EU to effectively maintain the agreement. He also said that Iran welcomes China's initiative on the regional platform and hopes that relevant parties would show flexibility and maintain regional peace and stability.
The two foreign ministers also discussed cooperation regarding COVID-19.
Wang said China is willing to strengthen cooperation with Iran in tackling the pandemic. Zarif expressed gratitude to China for its support to fight the virus, saying Iran is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in related fields.
