Iran Press/ Middle East: According to Israel's Channel 12, some 1,000 people are taking part in the manhunt.
Security cameras in Tel Aviv could not identify the shooter.
Security forces have told the public to remain indoors as the shooter remains at large.
The forces have set up 100 roadblocks around Tel Aviv, the Kan public broadcaster reported.
The coastal city was the scene of the Second Palestinian Intifada in the early to mid-2000s. A total of 469 Palestinians and 199 Israelis were killed in 2001.
According to Amnesty International's report on the first year of the Intifada, the overwhelming majority of cases of unlawful killings and injuries in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories have been committed by the Israeli Army using excessive force. In particular, the Israeli Army used US-supplied helicopters in punitive rocket attacks where there was no imminent danger to life. Israel has also used helicopter gunships to carry out extrajudicial executions and to fire at targets that resulted in the killing of civilians, including children.
