Canada has imposed additional sanctions on Iran, targeting the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and law enforcement forces over what Ottawa claims to be systematic human rights violations.

Iran PressAmerica: According to a statement by the Canadian government, the new sanctions include 12 Iranian individuals.

Ottawa has accused the sanctioned individuals of suppression of demonstrations across Kurdish areas of western Iran following the death of a young Iranian woman in September last year.

The targeted officials include the governor of Kordestan Province and the commander of Basij volunteer forces in Sanandaj, the capital city of that province.

The sanctions prohibit dealings with the listed individuals, effectively freezing any assets they may hold in Canada.

The sanctioned individuals are also inadmissible to Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
