IP - Iranian Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, Reza Salehi Amiri, met with the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Iran PressAsia: The Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan expressed gratitude for Reza Salehi Amiri's presence in Baku and at the Tourism Ministers' meeting. He said that the visit of Iran's Minister of Tourism to Azerbaijan demonstrates both countries' desire to further improve their relations.

He also proposed the establishment of a specific mechanism between the two countries to protect cultural heritage from climate change and prevent the smuggling of historical artifacts, adding, "If this mechanism is placed within a defined global framework, it could also benefit from international support."

 

Iran, Azerbaijan Enhance Cultural Ties

 

Salehi Amiri, highlighting the historical, religious, and cultural commonalities between the two countries, emphasized the Islamic Republic of Iran's commitment to enhancing relations with Azerbaijan. He noted, "It is essential for both governments to showcase their cultural and historical commonalities to the people of the other country. It is also necessary to hold cultural heritage weeks reciprocally. Exhibiting each country’s museum artifacts in the other country is very important for improving cultural relations."

He invited the Azerbaijani minister to visit Iran, adding, "We are ready to support Azerbaijan on this important path by sharing our experiences and knowledge in the fields of restoration, excavation, preservation, and revitalization of cultural heritage."

Iranian Minister of Cultural Heritage also noted in closing, "The Islamic Republic of Iran adheres to the 1970 Convention on the illicit trafficking of cultural property, and we can establish a joint framework with Azerbaijan."
