Iran Press/Iran news: Addressing the forum, Araghchi stated, “Reinforcing ECO and broadening economic cooperation are key priorities. This meeting provides a critical platform for dialogue and advancing shared goals.” He noted that over the past year, the Islamic Republic of Iran has chaired the ECO with dedication, focusing on advancing the organization’s objectives to foster regional solidarity and improve the well-being of its people.
Araghchi emphasized the strategic significance of Khorasan Razavi Province, the host of this year’s gathering, describing it as rich in natural attractions and boasting immense economic, commercial, tourism, and agricultural potential. “We hope that foreign ministers attending the conference will witness the region’s vast capacities firsthand,” he said.
The province's geographical position, bordering Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, and its role as a crucial link between landlocked Central Asian nations and southern Iran’s open waters, underscores its importance, Araghchi added.
The meeting also served as an opportunity for participants to discuss regional and global developments. Araghchi expressed concern over ongoing violence, particularly against Gaza and Lebanon, as well as the recent resurgence of terrorist groups in Lebanon following a ceasefire. He attributed these issues to external interference by the U.S. and Israel, urging vigilance and a unified regional response.
During the conference, the foreign ministers explored pathways to enhance ECO's role and strengthen economic cooperation among member states. Araghchi conveyed greetings from Iran's President to the delegates and extended gratitude to the custodian of the Imam Reza Shrine, the Governor of Khorasan Razavi, and other provincial officials for their efforts in hosting the event.
The final session of the two-day summit saw the participation of ECO Secretary-General and foreign ministers from Turkey, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, and Tajikistan, alongside Iran.
