A senior aide and assistant to the Iranian foreign minister, Hossein Jaberi Ansari, in a meeting with Britain's special envoy to Syria, has emphasized that an immediate end to the Syrian crisis is a top priority of Iran's regional policy.

Iran Press: A senior aide  to Iran's foreign minister, Hossein Jaberi Ansari and  Britain's special envoy to Syria, Martin Longden, met in Tehran on Saturday afternoon. Both diplomats expressed  their concern over the current situation in Syria, and future of Idlib province in the northwest of the country, as well as possible use of chemical weapons in the region, MNA reported .

Jaberi Ansari reiterated that humanitarian issues have always been important to Iran, and that Tehran has always been clear and transparent with regards to its Syria policy.

Stating that Iran, as a victim of chemical weapons, strongly opposes use of such weapons in any conflict, the senior aide to Zarif expressed Iran's strong objection and opposition to "staging of chemical attacks", whereby some countries carefully choreograph "fake chemical attacks" as a tool to achieving certain objectives.

Hailing the Astana Process on Syria, Jaberi Ansari said “Iran has always called for dialogue among Syrians and has always supported negotiations between the Syrian government and opposition groups.”

A new round of international talks on the Syria crisis were hold in Kazakhstan on May 16, 2018.
