Iran Press/America: Biden won Michigan about 10 am, placing him six electoral votes away from victory, according to the Associated Press. He also won Wisconsin overnight. Donald Trump has won the battlegrounds of Florida, Ohio and Texas.
The Trump campaign has demanded a recount in Wisconsin and filed lawsuits to halt counting in Georgia, Michigan and Pennsylvania after the President repeatedly claimed – without proof – that Biden's gains were the result of electoral fraud.
In press conferences on Thursday morning, Biden told reporters his team believes they are the winners, meanwhile Trump's camp has claimed the Democrats are "cheating" in Pennsylvania.
The tight contest reflects a deeply polarised nation struggling to respond to the worst health crisis in more than a century, which has combined with millions of job losses and reckoning on racial injustice.
Neither candidate has the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the Oval Office. And as votes continued to trickle in, it’s possible the American people could be hours or even days away from knowing who will lead their nation.
Trump cried foul over the election results, falsely calling the process “a major fraud on our nation.” But there’s no evidence of foul play in the cliffhanger. He vowed to take the election to the Supreme Court, and received criticism from conservative pundits after making his comments. The Biden campaign said it would fight any such efforts to stop the counting of votes.
