Mohammad Jafar Tawakoli, a religious scholar in Herat, was killed by unknown gunmen in his home town .
Abdul Ahad Walizada, spokesman for Herat police, told Killid that the scholar was gunned down by armed cyclists in PD 5th of the city yesterday evening. Walizada added that the gunmen fled the area.
No one has so far been arrested in the connection with the incident.No group has so far claimed responsibility.President Ashraf Ghani has condemned the killing of the religious scholar Mohammad Jafar Tawakoli and called its perpetrators the enemies of Islam and humanity.
The Presidential Palace in a press release said President Ghani considered the incident unforgivable act and big crime and emphasized targeting Religious scholars and servant figures is not in any religion, is unjustifiable and contrary to all Islamic and human values.
According to the press release, Ghani described Tawakoli as a famous religious scholars in the country and noted that he has made many efforts to promote the Islamic principles as well as religious issues.
