Tehran (IP) - The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said that the highest amount of fresh water in the world is supplied from the Persian Gulf using desalination devices, but Iran's share is not enough and must be expanded.

Iran PressIran news: Head of the Atomic Energy Organization, Mohammad Eslami, said: "We have predicted producing a total of 10,000 new megawatts in the southern coasts, and wherever we build a power plant, apart from using seawater for the process inside the power plant, we are planning to build a desalination complex next to it so that we can provide water and electricity for the covered area."

Eslami added: "The desalination project with a capacity of 70,000 cubic meters will be completed within 2 to 2.5 years, and we should be able to connect it to a consumption network."

He stated: "Bear in mind that the Bushehr nuclear power plant is being developed, and we have two more 1050 MW power plant units in operation. It is hoped that the electricity and water generated will solve people's problems.

"With the project's construction, a daily capacity of 70 thousand cubic meters of water will be sweetened, which can sweeten 2.5 to 3.5 cubic meters of seawater every second, and the capacity of the project to sweeten the seawater can be 105 thousand cubic meters per day," Eslami concluded.
