Tehran (IP) - Speaking at the 13th meeting of the Board of Governors of the Regional Center for Urban Water Management, Tajikistan Minister of the Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma stated that accessing water is a big global challenge, so it requires decisive action to manage it perfectly.

Iran PressIran news: 13th Governing Board Ministerial Meeting (GBM-13) of the Regional Centre on Urban Water Management (RCUWM) under the auspices of UNESCO kicks off in Tehran on Thursday.

The meeting is chaired by Iran's Minister of Energy and the participation of the member states' senior relevant officials. 

RCUWM event was inaugurated with Ministers and Deputy ministers from 16 countries in attendance including Iran's Minister of Energy Ali Akbar Mehrabian.

Minister of the Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan, Daler Juma in the opening ceremony said that accessing water is a big global challenge, so it requires decisive action to manage it perfectly.

Daler Juma noted that regarding climate change, it is also necessary for the international community to change its approaches.

Baghdad eyeing cooperation on water issues with neighbors

Iran's Water official said that his country depends on neighboring countries for water management and water supply.

Speaking at the 13th meeting of the Board of Governors of the Regional Centre on Urban Water Management (RCUWM) Iraq's Water Resources Minister called water sources the most important and vital issue.

Awn Theab Abdullah said further explained that in the Middle East, there are lots of cases of droughts and there fore Iraq will highly depend on the cooperation on water management and water supply with the neighboring countries.

Abdullah said that water is an essential element for human life and that providing water to people is of great importance.

After his speech was delivered Iran's Minister of Energy said that Iran will cooperate with Iraq in this regard.

Armenian official: RCUWM, the key to expanding regional, and international cooperation 

Speaking at the 13th meeting of the Board of Governors of the Regional Centre on Urban Water Management (RCUWM) Head of the Armenian Water Committee said that such meetings can expand regional and international cooperation.

Armenia has announced its readiness for water management. At the meeting, the Armenian government made three proposals, all of which were considered.

The policies and approaches of the Armenian government are in accordance with the policies of this summit. And all member countries of this summit should invest more.

Lebanon urges Intl. cooperation to overcome environmental challenges

The representative of Lebanon in RCUWM said that Beirut is in need of international cooperation to overcome transboundary environmental challenges.

Speaking at the 13th meeting of the Board of Governors of the Regional Centre on Urban Water Management (RCUWM), the Representative of Lebanon said that In the field of water, we need international cooperation, and we are faced with transboundary environmental challenges that we must overcome.

Afghan Deputy min: Direct connection between water and political issues 

Afghan Deputy Minister of Water Resources stressed that is a direct connection between water and political issues.

Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, Deputy Minister of Water of Afghanistan, said that the participants present at this summit can find appropriate solutions for water challenges because water is an issue at the regional, international, and global levels.

According to this high-ranking Afghan official, climatic conditions have made it difficult for Afghanistan to access water.

"The recent sanctions in Afghanistan have faced the people of this country with problems in the water sector. There is a direct connection between water and sanctions and political issues. Addressing the problems caused by water shortage is only possible with bilateral and multilateral cooperation." Added he.

Sri Lankan Official: RCUWM achievement, valuable

The Representative of Sri Lanka called the achievement of the RCUWM valuable.

Speaking at the 13th meeting of the Board of Governors of the Regional Centre on Urban Water Management (RCUWM) the representative of Sri Lanka said that considering the importance of the issue, he believes that the achievements of this meeting can be very valuable and Sri Lanka is ready for any cooperation with the member countries.
