4.9 Richter quake strikes Raver in Southern Kerman province

An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale shook the city of Ravar in southern province of Kerman on Monday.

 Iran PressIran news: The Rover County Governor said the earthquake in the city, fortunately did not cause any damage.

Malik Ajdari, quoted a 4.9-magnitude earthquake as saying: The quake struck around 4:30 pm today in the Kerman province.

He added that the earthquake was recorded at 56.6 longitude and 31.26 latitude.

The Rav Governor said the focus of the earthquake was 19 kilometers from Raver, 23 kilometers from Kianshahr and 34 kilometers from Kuhbanan. Preliminary assessments have been carried out and fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the earthquake occurred at 4:03 hours local time (00:33 GMT) and at the depth of 10 km underground.

No report has so far been released on the likely casualties or damage to the property.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.

Yesterday, a magnitude 5.7 earthquake hit northwestern Iran on the border with Turkey on Sunday killed at least nine people in neighboring country and injured dozens more on both sides of the border, authorities said.
