Chabahar (IP) - Iran, Russia, and China have begun a four-day joint maritime exercise codenamed "Marine Security Belt," in the Indian Ocean and the Sea of Oman area.

Iran Press/Iran News: A spokesman for the Iran-Russia Joint Marine Expedition said the exercise will be conducted in the northern Indian Ocean region and in open waters, covering an area of 17,000 square kilometers, Iran Press reported.

According to Rear Admiral Gholamreza Tahani, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations of Iran's Navy, a variety of exercises, including day and night maritime tactical exercises, will be performed using all the capabilities of the units participating in the exercise.

The "Marine Security Belt," will last until Monday.

The event is the first such cooperation with Iran since the 1979 victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution.

It comes amid US efforts to woo countries into a maritime coalition for patrols in the Persian Gulf, which have received a lukewarm welcome from its allies.205
