Iran press/Iran news: Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has led the Eid prayers at Tehran's Imam Khomeini Grand Prayer Grounds (Mosalla) in the capital Tehran.
The Leader delivered the sermons following the prayers, Iran Press reported.
Iranians across the country are celebrating Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadhan.
Eid al-Fitr marks the new lunar month of Shawwal and the end of Ramadhan — the ninth month on the Islamic calendar — when Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, and indulging in anything that is in excess or ill-natured from dawn to dusk.
Muslims believe Ramadhan to be an auspicious month for the revelations of God to mankind, given the belief that it was in Ramadhan when the first verses of the Holy Qur’an were revealed to Prophet Muhammad (blessings of God upon him and his progeny).
During the Eid, Muslims all over the world attend mass prayers, listen to sermons and pay Zakat al-Fitr.
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Afghanistan, and Turkey celebrated Eid on Tuesday, whereas Iran, Pakistan, Oman, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Indonesia, and Malaysia mark the occasion on Wednesday. 101/211/201
