Tehran (IP) - The head of the Iran Fisheries Organization Nabiullah Khoonmirzaei stated that Iran ranks first in the world in trout production, fifth in carp, second in caviar, and third in sturgeon meat production.

Iran PressIran News: At the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with the Iranian Institute of Nutrition Sciences and Food Technology on Tuesday, the head of the Iran Fisheries Organization added: "Production of fish and aquatic products has increased significantly in recent years, and Iran now ranks almost tenth in the world in shrimp production; in fishing from the Indian Ocean, Iran ranks second in the world and first in the region."

"Last year, the amount of aquaculture production in Iran exceeded 1,280,000 tons, of which about 525,000 tons is farmed fish," according to Khoonmirzaei.

"This year the amount of production reaches 1,370,000 tons and the year 1400 (AH) will cross 1,500,000 tons," he added.
