Three US soldiers were killed and three others were wounded when an improvised explosive device detonated on Tuesday near the central Afghan city of Ghazni, the Nato-led Resolute Support mission said in a statement.

Asia: A US civilian contractor was also wounded in the blast and was receiving treatment with the other wounded, the military said, Guardian reported.

The names of those killed were not immediately disclosed pending the notification of next of kin.

No other details were immediately released.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the ambush, claiming that a tank was "completely destroyed."
