Anti-US protesters were out on the streets of Montevideo, as the Venezuela contact group held its meeting in the Uruguayan capital.

Iran Press/America: As Venezuela contact group held its meeting in Uruguay, anti-US protesters held a rally in the streets of Montevideo, on Thursday.

According to Iran Press, demonstrators condemned the US interventions in Venezuela's Internal affair.

On the other hand, during the meeting of Venezuela contact group, EU’s Foreign Affairs Chief Federica Mogherini called for a political, peaceful and democratic solution in Venezuela.
Mogherini stressed that the objective of the International Contact Group is to contribute to a political, peaceful and democratic solution, and to avoid a chaotic and dangerous process.
She described the situation in Venezuela as urgent due to the situation potentially escalating and affecting the rest of the region.
The EU-led International Contact Group on Venezuela includes France, the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, and the Netherlands, as well as Bolivia, Uruguay, Costa Rica, and Ecuador.

The leader of Venezuela’s opposition-led National Assembly, Juan Guaidó, declared himself acting president on January 23 with the explicit support of the US and Washington's allies; a move that was described as a coup attempt against the country’s legal government.

The Trump administration has recognized Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó as interim president and slapped sanctions on Venezuela’s state oil company.

Trump has also threatened Venezuela with military action.

In this regard, Russia, China, Iran, Mexico, Bolivia, Cuba, Turkey support Maduro's government and reiterated that they recognize Nicolas Maduro as the lawful president of Venezuela.
