Iran Press/Europe: Speaking in Helsinki, Finland, in a joint press conference with Pekka Haavisto, his Finish counterpart, foreign minister Zarif said the US should fully observe its commitments under resolution 2231 of United Nations Security Council which the US had endorsed.
After unanimous approval of resolution 2231 of United Nations Security Council on 20 January 2015, all 6 former resolutions imposing sanctions on Iran were rescinded and superseded by resolution 2231.
Zarif went on to condemn the action by local government in Gibraltar, namely the seizure of an Iranian supertanker at the behest of United States, and with Britain's assistance, calling it illegal action and an act of piracy, stressing the political motivation behind the US court warrant for seizure of the Iranian oil tanker.
The Finish Foreign Minister for his part said that Finland supports the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) from which the US president withdrew and imposed sanctions against Iran.
Meanwhile, the Iranian supertanker, 'Adrian Darya' , formerly called Grace 1, left the territorial waters of Gibraltar on Monday and headed for international waters. The supertanker had been impounded for 45 days in Gibraltar.
The authorities in Gibraltar have rejected a US request to extend the seizure of the oil tanker, citing differences in US and European sanctions against Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister who is in Finland on an official visit also met and conferred with Ville Skinnari, Finland's trade minister.
Zarif will depart Finland for Norway and Sweden.
Zarif arrived in Helsinki early on Monday to hold high-level talks with senior Finnish officials on a host of bilateral relations, international and regional issues, JCPOA, Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX) and Finland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union.
