Zarif: If the US wants security in the Persian Gulf, then it must stop destabilising the region

The Iranian foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif said if Trump Administration really wants security for commercial shipping in the Persian Gulf, then it must stop its destabilising actions and behaviour.

Iran Press/Iran News: Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted on Tuesday:

"Insecurity in the Persian Gulf is caused mainly by US intervention & its #EconomicTerrorism on Iranians. Adding foreign naval fleets in this narrow & crowded tinderbox only increases risk of combustion. If US wants maritime security, it should stop its destabilizing behavior."

Meanwhile,According to Iran Press, in another tweet on Tuesday Zarif derided proliferation of American weaponry in the Middle East region as a real menace to regional security. Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted on Tuesday:

"US' proliferation of arms in our region is menace to regional security. Last year Iran—with ~1M men under arms—spent $16B on its ENTIRE military. Saudi Arabia spent 5X that JUST on arms. Overflowing armories don’t win peace—or even war. Regional cooperation brings REAL security pic.twitter.com/v1bk63C…"

The Iranian foreign minister has repeatedly emphasised that, any extra-regional military presence in the Persian Gulf is by definition a source of insecurity, and thus unwelcome. He has also repeatedly said that true security in the Persian Gulf can only come about by cooperation and coordination between regional countries and Persian Gulf littoral states.
