Iran Press/ Iran news: Whoever has travelled to Isfahan has visited the historical house of Shaykh al-Islam and observed the love and affection of Master 'Mahdi Shamsali' toward this magnificent and valuable old art in Iran as the pioneer of Iranian fine weaving art of gold lace work.
The Isfahani artist, who has spent 65 years of his life artistically weaving the traditional art of gold lace work and turning silk and golden warp and weft into magnificent fabric, is still trying to revive fine weaving in his workshop and create artistic master piece with his own hands.
For many years, Master Mahdi Shamsali has tried to preserve this beautiful and valuable art, which is a legacy of the Sassanid historical period, for the future by training his students.
The veteran Isfahani artist said in an interview with Iran Press News Agency at the historical house of Sheikh al-Islam in Isfahan, that so far he has been able to apply hunting, bergamot, arabesque and polo designs in valuable gold lace work textiles.
Fabrics of gold, silver and silk threads are woven with the help of two types of traditional fine weaving machine and Jacquard machine, which is made of sycamore wood.
A number of young Isfahani artists have been able to study in the presence of a prominent master of traditional Iranian weaving so that this original and magnificent art is not forgotten.
According to scholars and historians Zaribafi dates back to the Sassanid historical period which is considered as one of the most brilliant periods in terms of weaving in Iran.
Fine art weaving including gold lace work is very delicate and requires special skills for its weaving, and due to the use of gold, silver and silk threads, this magnificent Iranian handicraft is very valuable, prestigious and expensive.
