Iran Press/ Africa: A camp that hosts hundreds of people who fled clashes between the Congolese army and rebels of the March 23 Movement (M23) supported by the Rwandan army, organizers told Iran Press.
At least 17 people, all displaced by the war, were killed and 35 others injured during this bombing by M23 rebels in a camp for displaced people, Congolese authorities told Iran Press.
Young demonstrators also attacked the international community, accused of “complicity” in this war that the DRC has been experiencing for more than 20 years.
“We don't need these foreign armies, we have enough of them. We want Rwanda to liberate the Congo. Congo must not be under the influence of a country like Rwanda., whether it is the Southern African Development Community (SADC), whether it is the international community. We are aware that these multinationals do not help us in any way, they are imposing an endless war on us. We have had enough. The international community has been there for more than 20 years condemning Rwanda, but none of these condemnations have produced results,” Chance Matale, a young demonstrator, told Iran Press.
The noose is tightening on the international community. Several demonstrations have already taken place in several cities of the Democratic Republic of Congo against several Western countries, notably France, Belgium, and the United States, accused of being behind the terrorist groups that kill in the east of the DRC. Protesters told Iran Press that more protests will be organized in the coming days against the international community.
“We are here to call on the international community to investigate and punish those responsible for crimes in the DRC. We are also here to raise awareness among the population to support our army because it is the only army we have. We want to tell our authorities that help for our country will not come from elsewhere, it is our army that can better defend the country. Our president must fire SADC because they have become like tourists,” La Lucha activist Nadia Kasole told Iran Press.
Christophe Muisa, one of the demonstrators, told Iran Press that he is demonstrating against the international community which continues to demonstrate hypocrisy.
“We are also here to demand justice for all these victims, to express our solidarity, it is at this price that we gather here. If our authorities are not capable of securing the population and the international community continues to demonstrate hypocrisy, we are tired and outraged. If no action is taken quickly, we will demand the resignation of our authorities because we no longer see the point of remaining with such an irresponsible government, where the enemy is gaining ground,” activist Christophe Muisa told Iran Press of the Filimbi movement.
In a communication on Monday evening, the government of the DRC recalled that the international community must take significant political and economic sanctions to force Rwanda to abandon its terrorist and murderous activities on Congolese territory.
“Countries supporting Rwanda should demand that it immediately and unconditionally withdraw its troops from the territory of the DRC and respect its territorial integrity, political and economic independence, by the principles of the United Nations Charter, as well as the rules of human rights and international humanitarian law,” Prisca Luanda, representative of the military governor of North Kivu, told Iran Press.
It is important to note that the M23, a former Tutsi rebellion that took up arms again at the end of 2021, benefits according to Kinshasa from the active support of Rwanda, which Kigali disputes. The situation has deteriorated since the resumption of clashes.
